BC Builders Lien Act s. 8(1)-(2)
The ordinary reference period is 55 days. Release depends on the governing statute, controlling completion event and any applicable liens or claims; elapsed time alone does not authorize release.
The reviewed 45-day preservation period is anchored to claimant certificate issued on Oct 13, 2026. Confirm the applicable registration or service procedure; this is separate from release of retained money.
BC's Construction Prompt Payment Act would shorten the holdback period to 46 days and abolish a standalone lien against the holdback. It received Royal Assent on 2025-11-27 but has not been brought into force and has no proclamation date, so the Builders Lien Act periods above continue to apply.
