Construction lien
A construction lien (builders' lien in some provinces) is a charge on improved land securing payment for work or materials, valid only if preserved in time.
The lien attaches to the owner's interest in the land. The statutory holdback fund is the first source the law uses to satisfy valid liens. Missing the lien-filing window extinguishes the right.
